Comanche Tack

A friend generously gave me a War Bridle as a gift. I had heard of the Comanche Tack via the ICHO website & that a man named Mitch Wilkinson was touring around demonstrating the technique. In a demonstration in Austria, Mitch Wilkinson explained how the Comanche rode with loops for the knees and that they used a saddle pad like a pillow to protect the horses' backs. He explained how the war bridle tightens on one side and loosens on the other, controlling how much pressure is on the horse's mouth. And, he demonstrated how the Comanche shot with bow and arrow from horse back. I found it fascinating. I have included a few pics to show in greater detail of the tack. The idea & purpose is to ride naturally using seat and legs for everything else just like the Comanche did.

( The Comanche were a Native American people formerly ranging over the southern Great Plains from western Kansas to northern Texas and now located in Oklahoma. The Comanche became nomadic buffalo hunters after migrating south from Wyoming in the 18th century)

Pictures of us, messing around with the war bridle. Tracy does well because she has taught Chy alot of leg and seat aids. Reese and I aren't quite as refined so we aren't nearly as graceful! Here are some pics taken in Mid January, 2007.
